This update of GPU Caps Viewer has taken more time than I thought due to the support of OpenCL. Yes OpenCL is now available and GPU Caps is available with a new OpenCL panel as well as new OpenCL demos!
UPDATE (2009.12.28)
GPU Caps Viewer 1.8.2 is available HERE. This version fixes the startup infinite wait state that occurs with some systems.
UPDATE (2009.12.22)
The new GPU Caps Viewer 1.8.1 is available HERE. This version 1.8.1 works with ATI Stream SDK v2.0.0.

Both NVIDIA and AMD provide a support of OpenCL. NVIDIA has a GPU implementation of OpenCL and AMD offers a CPU and GPU implementations of OpenCL.
Update (2009.12.21): How to enable OpenCL
How to enable OpenCL on NVIDIA and AMD platforms.
Here are the screenshots of OpenCL support on an AMD platform:
AMD: OpenCL CPU
AMD: OpenCL GPU
Here is the screenshots of OpenCL support on a NVIDIA platform:
NVIDIA: OpenCL GPU
NVIDIA CUDA
In a next post I’ll explain you how to properly enable OpenCL support so you’ll be able to see the OpenCL demos in real time:
Here are the OpenCL demos:
OpenCL GPU demo – Surface deformer
OpenCL GPU demo – PostFX (from NVIDIA GPU Computing SDK)
OpenCL GPU demo – 1,000,000 Particles (source: OpenCL demo with 1,000,000 particles)
OpenCL GPU demo – Ray Traced Quaternion Julia Set (from Apple OpenCL SDK)
I did some performance tests with several video cards (Radeon HD 5870, HD 5770, GeForce GTS 250, GeForce GTX 295). And results are very interesting. Stay tuned I’ll publish them very very shortly in another post 😉
PC INpact has just released an OpenCL test based on GPU Caps. French readers, you’ll find this test HERE.
I also added the display of GPU temperature for multiple GPUs. So if you have two or four GPUs, you can read their respective temperature at the bottom of the first panel. This functionality is useful to quickly see if SLI or Crossfire is properly enabled. For example, with a GeForce GTX 295, I launched the Furry Cube demo and the temperature of both GPUs instantly went up:
Idle mode
Stress mode: both GPUs are working
GPU Caps Viewer uses ZoomGPU for retrieve graphics card data. So if you need such a functionality, think to ZoomGPU SDK.
GPU Caps Viewer also exists in PRO version with benchmarking facilities.

Looks nice too bad it grabs 100% of both CPU cores and five minutes later still can not detect two nVidia 8800GT’s.

it doesnt work on my dell xps m1530 with win 7 x64 ultimate, it doesnt pass the scanning hardware
Does this support game programing as well
@ qwertinsky and jm > could you please give me any information that will help me to find the bug like display drivers version, OS (for qwertinsky) or graphics card model (for jm) ?

jm, does GPU Caps 1.7.0 pass the hardware scanning ?
Not detecting OPENCL in 4870 win 7 64 with both 9.12 and the hotfix
“No OpenCL support :(” on my ATI 4870 vista 64 …
why?
v180 does not work… hangs during app launch and never displays anything.
I just tried 1.8.0 with the new ATI Stream SDK 2.0 production release.
It refuses to load OpenCL on my laptop which has a NVIDIA GPU, because it thinks the ATI OpenCL won’t work:
[NORMAL]#00000001#Tue Dec 22 19:08:27 2009#GPU Caps Viewer 1.8.0 startup
[NORMAL]#00000002#Tue Dec 22 19:08:29 2009#Found 1 OpenCL-capable platform.
[WARNING]#00000003#Tue Dec 22 19:08:29 2009#The vendor of your OpenCL DLL (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.) does not match your graphics card vendor (NVIDIA)
Considering that the ATI drivers support CPU OpenCL without needing their GPU drivers, you should change this as surely NVIDIA and ATI’s OpenCL’s will not list a non existent GPU and thus not have compatibility problems.
Also Intel or VIA may eventually release an OpenCL driver for their CPUs in PCs with non Intel or VIA GPUs.
@ yfital:
Have you installed the ATI Stream 2.0 SDK?
You may need to copy CC:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Stream\bin\x86\OpenCL.dll to C:\Program Files (x86)\oZone3D\GPU_Caps_Viewer_v1.8.0
I was sure that the 9.12 includes the stream inside…
will install and let you know
GPU Caps 1.8.1 is available with ATI Stream 2.0.0 support.
Does this support ATI Rage IIC AGP?
