(Tested) Lost Planet 2 DX11 Tessellation Benchmark: GeForce GTX 400 vs Radeon HD 5000

Lost Planet 2 DX11 Benchmark

Lost Planet 2 DX11 Benchmark

Here is a new DX9 and DX11 benchmark based on the game Lost Planet 2. You can download the 955MB zip file HERE.

And of course, this DX11 benchmark relies on GPU tessellation:

Lost Planet 2 DX11 Benchmark - Tessellation detail

I tested this benchmark with the DX11 (Direct3D!) render path with the following graphics cards:
– EVGA GeForce GTX 480
– MSI N460GTX Cyclone
– ATI Radeon HD 5870
– MSI R5770 Hawk

Here are the settings:

Lost Planet 2 DX11 Benchmark - Settings

Testbed:
– CPU: Core i7 960 @ 3.2GHz
– RAM: 4GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator
– Mobo: Gigabyte X58-A-UD5
– PSU: Corsair X1200
– Graphics drivers: R258.96 + Cat10.7
– Windows 7 64-bit

Test A

The primary purpose of Test A is to give an indication of typical game play performance of the PC running Lost Planet 2. (i.e. if you can run Mode A smoothly, the game will be playable at a similar condition). In this test, the characterfs motion is randomized to give a slightly different outcome each time.

60.2 FPS – EVGA GeForce GTX 480 (R258.96)
38 FPS – MSI N460GTX Cyclone (R258.96)
37.3 FPS – ATI Radeon HD 5870 (Cat10.7)
23 FPS – MSI R5770 Hawk (Cat10.7)

Test B

The primary purpose of Test B is to push the PC to its limits and to benchmark the maximum performance of the PC. It utilizes many functions of Direct X11 resulting in a very performance-orientated, very demanding benchmark mode.

51.6 FPS – EVGA GeForce GTX 480 (R258.96)
39.6 FPS – ATI Radeon HD 5870 (Cat10.7)
32.2 FPS – MSI N460GTX Cyclone (R258.96)
23.2 FPS – MSI R5770 Hawk (Cat10.7)

    Nvidia meant to be player.

This logo when star the game, I am sure.

  2. nap

It will be interesting to view FPS stats with and without tesselation (to measure how much performance decreases with tesselation on).

  3. as always

nvidia “meant to be played” games always have tweaks in them to support nvidia and bash amd. NVIDIA CHEATS

    @nap

My 4850 at 1920X1080 DX9 is faster than my 5850 at DX11. That should say a lot about the performance hit!

    @as always:

It’s only in your wildest imagination.

The fact is that NVIDIA doesn’t give a penny to developers, NVIDIA just cooperates with them so that games could _use_ and run NVIDIA GPUs capabilities.

Your graphs are title incorrectly. The top graph which shows 39.6 fps is the Radeon 5870. The bottom which shows 51.6 is the GTX 480. Either your graphs are switched or the titles switched. I’m basing this on your performance numbers indicated above the graphs.

its time you ATI fanboys admit it – HD5xxx just suck at tessellation.

  8. Overmind

The 460 is exactly where it suppose to be: below the 5870. Let’s not forget that the GF-104 architecture was changed and tesselation performance is lower than the GF-100 series.

nV won’t be able to cheat with optimizations for much more. Eventually they’ll have to do something worthy from start (like the current 460) or be defeated.

@Anticheater: when you optimize it’s OK. When you anti-optimize for the others (like physx does) it’s a plane cheat by all definitions.

i dont understand this guys way allways miss put the radeon HD5970 in the benchmarks i have one of this babys and i want to check the performance whit others video cards

  10. Zeuz

ok hiii i try the (benchmark) on my HD5970 BUT whit eny result whyy becose this benchmark its only for NVIDIA cards i downloud 3 times the software and the 3 times same result when is chargin the programe no problem whit direct x 9 but just selection direct x 11 and is freeze like something stop the programe to work whit this card in particular i think is fear you now about this fantastic videocard they dont want be deafeated in they own benchmark so thas way is blocked of course is my own opinion and i am very deasapointed whit nvidia they are very good but…..

I can’t believe you guys actually argue about, and side with video cards. WTF.. LOL!! I buy whatever is best.. as if i care whether its Nvidia, radeon, w/e, w/e. typical sheep, you look for your differences, not your similarities. You want a good system? Buy 2 of any companies video card and bridge them. 150-200 fps in any game across 3 monitors. at that point, who cares who made it?
