AMD has published a special version of the Catalyst drivers for the upcoming id Software’s Rage game. This Catalyst driver, version 11.9, constains OpenGL optimizations because new id Software’s baby is an OpenGL game!
You can download this driver HERE.
This driver is an OpenGL 4.2 driver with

notice that it is exposing new AMD-specific extensions 🙂
it adds the ability to treat a swap interval as a negative bounds i believe.
Yeah it was created by John Carmack after he noticed that console support sync on hit, tear on miss vsync support.
Expect NVIDIA to add support for it oo.
Hey thats cool. I don’t know how but your forum picked up my Battlefield 3 avatar!
Rage on AMD’s cards is a disaster, lol.
I run it on my 570 and it run fine. 40% gpu usage, 60fps smooth, 1080P 4XAA.
Then I went to try it on my 5850 with the same settings. Using the hotfix driver of course.
Jesus Christ i have never seen such a fail before. Textures are popping up all around, framerate drops to 30fps, the gpu usage is at 75%.
Nice going ID with your “GPU Transcode” optimization! Another sold out company!
Unfortunatly AMD/ATI’s relation with OpenGL never contemplated the stability factor, and this is where Direct3D beats OpenGL.
PC-Version of Rage is so bad I don’t understand why people even bother. Another PC developer who sold out to consoles. So much for nVidia claims PC games are the future.
It runs fine now on both my Nvidia and ATI cards, with patch 1 and ati hotfix v2.
My GTX 570 runs at 1080P+4XAA with 40% gpu usage, solid at 60fps.
My ATI 5850 runs at 1080P+4XAA with 66% gpu usage, solid at 60fps.
Both with 8192k textures.
I know that my GTX 460 will run it fine. Maybe even more so than the 5850. I am very curious to see how my old trusty 4850 will do with it though. 😛
PS The 8192k texture options, puts almost 50% more memory load. From 550MB of the normal setting, memory usage jumped to 750MB with 8192k textures.
I just installed and tested on RAGE. Its running pretty smooth on my ATI Mobility 5870M.
I was using the 11.9 normal driver and the game was pretty glitch. Now with the new one its just fine.
I set mine up in RAGE
