AMD Cataylst 13.4 for Linux, OpenGL extensions



AMD has released a new graphics driver for Linux that supports all Radeon HD 5000/6000/7000 videocards. The new feature of Catalyst 13.4 for Linux are:

  • RHEL 6.4 Production Support
  • OpenCL Console Mode Support
  • Kernel 3.7 and 3.8 Support

And like for Catalyst 13.4 for Windows, we will certainly find the support of the freshly released Radeon HD 7990 in Cat 13.4 for Linux.

AMD Cataylst 13.4 for Linux

Catalyst 13.4 for Linux is an OpenGL 4.2 driver (GL_VERSION: 4.0.12217 Core Profile Context 12.104, the same version that in Catalyst 13.4 for Windows) and exposes 235 OpenGL extensions (or 236 with GL_ARB_debug_output if the debug bit is set) and 27 GLX extensions.

I didn’t do the comparison with a previous FGLRX driver, but I guess that Catalyst 13.4 for Linux adds new OpenGL 4.3 extensions including GL_ARB_compute_shader, like Cat 13.4 for Windows.

    Catalyst for Linux share OpenGL code with Catalyst for Windows. So it have same bugs, same supported extensions, same bad/good performance.

    So it should have same new extensions too.
