    JegX you have typo @ “The GM240 GPU:” – it’s GM204 🙂
And the TDP is >175W, shouldn’t be any more than this.

  2. JeGX Post Author

Thanks, typo fixed. For the TDP, let’s wait the official launch, 175W will be likely the good value.

“What you didn’t know, is that GM204 has 64 Raster Operating Units. Yes, GM204 has 64 ROPs, that’s more than Kepler GK110.

There are 5.2 billion transistors packed into GM204, and the GPU has a die size of 398 mm2.

Other interesting technology is Third Generation Delta Color Compression. This technology will help increase memory efficiency, which is definitely required with 256b interface.

The final buzzword for you is Multi-Pixel Programmable Sampling, technology improving sample randomization, and reducing quantization artifacts.

The biggest news here is that GTX 980 has only a TDP of 165W. That’s amazing power reduction compared to 250W GK110.

Last but not least, I can now confirm that GeForce GTX 980 has HDMI 2.0 support.”

WOW, Maxwell is an amazing improvement.

Shame there wasn’t time for the newly announced DP1.3 (even though specs were available for several months) but have to wait for implementation and be patient for next gen and make do with HDMI 2.0.

JeGX I know you’ve checked drivers for years, could you please quickly check on 343.91 beta (or await launch drivers) if OpenCL 1.1 on GTX 980 GM204 has LESS instructions vs 780 Gk110. Some were carried over but noticed some were missing but could easily be because an online database I checked is missing entries right now. Besides that, OCL performance is very good 😉

And the $599 posted was at the top end of our MSRRP.

@SMiThaYe: sorry, I can’t check OpenCL support because I don’t have a gtx 980 sample yet. I hope to get one shortly! I will release a new version of MSI Kombustor this morning so if you have a gtx 980, have a look at the two new compute tests…
